So far I’ve attempted to do everything possible I can, and I’ve been filling up my days like crazy—today is not exception. After our normal meeting, it was a 15 minute walk to DDB London advertising agency. I was pretty excited to see what this company was all about. They gave us a quick breakfast of assorted fruit and pastries before we all sat down for a presentation. DDB London is “world leading in creativity and efficiency” and has plenty of awards to prove it. All the people who work there are specifically chosen because they are “nice AND talented”. You can’t be one with out the other. They showed some great commercials and have some absolutely amazing campaigns (see below). I especially liked their marmite campaign—its so true! You do either love it or you hate it. I think its absolutely brilliant, and very daring that they are using a negative side to sell the product. Apparently there are no longer making marmite in glass jars but instead they are coming in squeezable plastic ones—so mom and dad, save those glass jars (they could become collectables)! It was cool seeing the agency that came up with the PG Tips monkey commercials from back in the day!
After the agency Amy, Corby, Meghan and I saw that we were a block away from Paddington Station so we thought we would explore it. I took a picture with dear ol’ Paddington! We ate lunch there (me again with my PB and J). Then it was off to explore Westminster Abbey.
When we got there it was absolutely freezing rain, but we were quick to get inside. There is so much history there! I learned the whole story of Queen Elizabeth I vs. Queen Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary) vs. Mary Queen of Scotts. The marshals there were so helpful and wanted to tell you everything. Poets Corner was really interesting—there were monuments and/ or tombs of so many famous authors and poets (Shakespeare. Dickens, Keats, etc.). There were so many tombs and some great architecture. There was also the oldest door in Britain—built in the 1050’s, that was pretty amazing. I was hesitant about going to another church, but it was really worth going to.
After the Abbey we grabbed a bite to eat at Pret a Manger before going home to relax for an hour or so. We had made reservations at Absolute Ice Bar, so we headed out around seven for the night. The Ice Bar, though expensive—15 pounds for 45 minutes!—was quite an experience. They give you these massive coats to wear. The room was completely ice, along with the glasses you drink out of, and it is kept at a constant 25 degrees. We took tons of pictures and drank our one drink (that came with the price of admission). It was fun, but pricey. Since it was only 45 minutes we decided to go out to a bar we had heard about in Piccadilly Circus—Tiger Tiger. It was fun, but I left early because my throat was hurting and I hadn’t been drinking anyway. After a long day, it was time to hit the hay.
