HAPPY NEW YEARS! After getting a good sleep in after New Years, I was looking forward to a day of just relaxing. We pretty much had the day off today, which was good—my feet need a day to rest! I decided to catch up on some English television and just hang around the flat until we had to meet up. I watched some Doctor Who, BBC News and even a little Red Dwarf. The others in the group don’t really get British television, but oh well.
After a day of relaxing we all met up around 8 p.m. to go to a sports bar for dinner in Piccadilly Circus (picture of Piccadilly Circus at night to the right). Since the University of Illinois football team made it all the way to the Rose Bowl (see above pic) this year, and we have some hard core fighting illini fans, we all wanted to go sit down and watch the game. Sports aren’t exactly my thing, but it was fun to get lost in the atmosphere with everyone. It was crazy, but at the American sports bar we ran into a bunch of University of Illinois alums. A few even recognized/ knew our professor Steve—small world! We lost, but it was still a good time. Since the game didn’t end until 2 a.m. over here, the tube was shut for the night. We decided to all take London taxis back home. The taxis here are really cool—much more fun than American taxis. Then it was straight to bed because we have to get up at 8 tomorrow—ahh not much sleep!
